Back to Events Written on 17-Aug-2009 by TomRoll up, roll up and get your dancing shoes on because two pioneers of modern leftfield house and techno are playing right here in London. Headlining is the schizophrenic and enigmatic curveball that is DJ Koze. Since emerging in 1999 Koze has tried his hand at an unfathomable number of styles and recorded for some of the very best envelope pushers along the way, including: Philpot, Freude-Tanzen, Warp and of course Kompakt. Any true electronic music fan will be well aware of the Hamburg jock and his strange yet beautiful ways - his music always defiantly different, but incredibly infectious and damn well danceable. His ability behind the decks is undeniably impressive too - he actually came second in the DMC championships during his hip-hop years - so you can just imagine the unique electricity he musters when channelling this dexterity into his true love of techno. Pure, unhinged genius.
Second in command is another Hamburg ressie - Dial Records main man Lawrence. If it wasn’t for him and his brilliantly creative beat smith entourage – deep house and techno would be a far less fertile place. The experimentation and originality that runs through their music is just so flagrant and refreshing, and time and time again proves that you can think outside the box, without alienating the kids. Lawrence himself tackles influence far beyond the usual musical mantra – Ride, Brian Eno, Talk Talk and Gravenhurst are all cited amongst his key influences – so it’s little wonder his sets emit a haunting beauty and sumptuous atmosphere like no other. Without doubt one of the most exciting and important DJs of our time, not to be missed, get a ticket HERE.

Tom says:
Cable Club, first up between the two was Lawrence. As expected Lawrence played some great deep tunes, keeping the crowd amused. Koze was on at 3am, i time for a hungry crowd, waiting for his signature twisted set.
Koze flipped from vinyl to CD, mashing them together on a DJM 800. What was so great about Koze was his ability to manipulate the sound, contorting it to fill the room with a warmer side of house and techno. Unlike most techno nights, his music has the ability to create warmth in the club.
He took this to full effect with 'Mariposa' that feature on Kompakt's Total 8. Vibrating and reverbing like a giant wasp. On the whole a great night with excellent music. I just can't believe it wasn't a sell out. Come on London your missing out!
