John Jagos began recording under the name Brothertiger in Toledo, Ohio during the summer of 2009. He began recording electronic music in 2006 as Monoteque, an experimental project characterized by tribal beats and pulsing synthesizers.

Influenced heavily by the electronic sound of Brian Eno and M83, along with the experimental characteristics of Animal Collective, Caribou, and Yeasayer, Jagos recorded many tracks throughout the final half of 2009. After he released the Apache Feathers EP on the Modicum of Silence net-label, he soon began work on Vision Tunnels, a full-length album that aims to combine his influences together and proclaim his idea of a “summer soundtrack.”

Drawing heavily upon cassette-esque drum tracks and dream-like synths, Brothertiger combines the ethereal style of 80s new wave with the modern electro-dance sound. Like new acts like Washed Out and Toro Y Moi, Brothertiger seems to have melded them both together to capture the “carefree and woozy feelings of summer ease.”

Tigersushi is 10 years old in 2010, the year of the Tiger. 10 years of activism, love and artistic ambition. To celebrate their anniversary, they're releasing a double compilation: More G.D.M. X, both a retrospective and vision of the future. A heap of unreleased exclusive tracks, some confirmed hits and some personal classics. The first CD (Easy) shows the bright Pop side of Tigersushi while the 2nd CD is mixed by Joakim and explores the more experimental inner workings of the label.

From graphic design to promotion, all creative aspects of Tigersushi are taken care of in-house, as well as most of the music recording with Joakim's studio, a central piece of the Tigersushi system which helped them produce artists such as Panico or Poni Hoax, much as DFA was founded around James Murphy's studio. Despite being very self contained, Tigersushi are responsible for some very exciting collaborations through their history, with Kill The DJ, Optimo, Ivan Smagghe, D*I*R*T*Y, Morpheus and Marc Collin (Nouvelle Vague) amongst others...

One of France’s foremost electronic musicians, Joakim has a background in classical music, US & UK indie rock and jazz. He first discovered electronic music after a schoolfriend left his synthetiser in Joakim's room, later latching onto indie and electronic labels such as Warp and Mo Wax. His first album ‘Tiger Sushi’ was ambient electro-jazz, before he moved onto electronics with ‘Fantômes’ [2003], ‘Monsters and Silly Songs’ [2007] and most recently 'Milky Ways' [2009]  on which he combines post-rock, disco, electronics and, well, silly songs. "Making a pure dance album would almost be like composing an album entirely in F major,” says Joakim. “I jump from one idea to the next. I simply have to try everything and see where it leads." An internationally renowned DJ, as a remixer; he’s recut tunes by Goldfrapp, Royksopp, Tiga, Air and Antena’s ‘Camino Del Sol’ - somehow managing to create some of the biggest club tunes around whilst twisting the originals into new and exciting shapes.

FaltyDL is back once again on Planet Mu with his 'Phreqaflex EP' and whoa it's good! After last year’s two very well received full length releases for the label ‘Love Is A Liability’ and the ‘Bravery EP’. He’s been busy working on tracks and remixes, building his reputation as a DJ and a producer.

Phreqaflex is actually the first of two EPs which show Falty apply his sound and signatures to two older types of music. This one is the 2-Step EP, ‘Endeavour’ released in September is Falty’s take on house music.

The three tracks here are as tough as hell, built for tearing up dancefloors, which make them a step away from Falty’s previous Mu releases. The bold ‘Phreqaflex’ has keyboard stabs, shuffling drums and glassy pads while ‘Because You’ uses triggered samples that fade and warp into the background over stormy chords, a huge bassline and a stop start melody backed by razor sharp drums.

Last but by no means least is ’My Friends Will Always Say…’, the most experimental and poppy track on the EP with a straight forward sampled melody line over off-key chords and worldless vocal lines slipping in and out of the track, while all kinds of details fight for attention in the mix. After a two-year wait since Tadd Mullinix’s last release as James T. Cotton on Spectral Sound, the man storms back with On Time , four tracks packed with more music than any EP has a right to. The titular first cut announces itself with tight jacks and bouncing bass before a male voice begins an endless “On Time” mantra, twisting and churning furiously through more than eight minutes. The short ‘n sweet “Octopus” mines Drexciya territory with granular synths and washes of static. “On Time (Rick Wade  ’s Grimetime Remix)” is a decidedly sexy, nocturnal house reinvention of the original, pushing languorous keys to the fore. “Jak Your Own Stars” builds slowly with rubberband bass, cowbells, and an 8-bit melody till some nasty 808s toy with the funk.

It’s been almost eight years since our ears were delighted to Michael Mayer’s Immer (which translates in English to Always) – a mix CD that even for it’s time seemed to transcend the state of the DJ mix album by bridging a timeless period of emerging music from producers known and new in exemplarity style and fusion. Immer would play a pivotal role in bringing the sound of Kompakt and of course Michael Mayer, to a global audience and to this date, and remains one of the most cherished and respected mix CD’s of all time, having recently made countless “best of decade” charts normally reserved for studio albums  plus earning a #1 position of “Best Mix CD Of The 00’s” by Resident Adviser.

Since then, Michael Mayer has continued to remain loyal to his roots of Cologne and between his time performing around the world maintains his weekday role as one of the core owners and operators of Komapkt– whether it be his careful A&R for the label, overseeing the distribution division or his studio collaborations and famed remixes with Superpitcher as Supermayer and of course his own production work, the man is well deservingly one of the most dedicated members of the music community thanks to his tireless work ethic and continuous enthusiasm.

Following a winter holiday and series of gigs in South America, Mayer arrived back home inspired and went straight to work on preparing the mix. As with the previous Immer releases, what you hear in Immer 3 immediately is a tremendously personal and reflective mix - Mayer jokes it as being the most feminine mix he’s done. Opting not for the most current and hip genres or tracks of the moment, he carefully chose timeless musical moments from his record crate that almost hints as a call to obliterate the current state of overhyped minimal bongo house, formulaic techno and dub step that rules the clubs today – as was similarly the case back with the first Immer release. The results reflect the smooth flow and selection that Michael brings to his fans in clubs week after week.

Immer 3 is one of those pillar releases from Kompakt that you just have to check out without hesitation. We expect Immer 3 to become a mix CD that generations will look back to in years to come, nice mix Mr Mayer.

Leeks isn't new to Traum, he's remixed Max Cooper for Traum already, but he's always been considered a Trapez artist. Leeks has a cool techno attitude with a swing like programming and odd sounds under his belt.

Trapez love his way of experimenting with sounds, some are quite edgy others are electronic sounding and not necessarily pleasing sounds as we get them in nearly every production these days. “Qwerty” for example does not subdue to the daily routine of “today's techno” but moves upright and proudly. Ever listened to Jeff Mills? You will then understand a bit about what is going on here.

“Not So Late” opens with an obscure electronic sound but then has a crowd pleasing big housy bassline drop in. A phenomena of British house, we dearly love. Leeks moves in the direction of early Blake Baxter cool piano chords with this track, somehow conveying a feeling of anxiety as if walking narrow streets at midnight.

“Adhesive” is a bit of a Dadaistic track... it's cool rhythm production makes it the most advanced on this EP. This track is a real trax, quirky and only for the wicked... with a bit of a non-sense sequency running through it... we love that... getting a bit of humour into the dry dance world. The last track on the EP 'Insert' is a bassline driver, with percussive programming that is very much in tune with modern techno trax that generate motion, but stay out of “stunts” and keep things cool and also kind of freaky sounding.

With its 7th release, 200 Records introduces a new artist – Till Krüger. The 23-year-old from Stuttgart, Germany, started his musical career playing the accordion in his childhood. After he had finished school, he started to produce techno music; deeply impressed by the Detroit Techno like Jeff Mills and Robert Hood as well as European followers like Joris Voorn or Alexander Kowalski. After releasing two tracks on German netlabel compilations, he signed with the Cologne-based Techno label 200 Records.

The “Wrong Shirt EP” is his debut – highly influenced by the basic structure of the Detroit sound. The Wrong Shirt EP is both a deep and a forward pushing Detroit Techno hymn. With Wumme (German slang for “gun”), Till did a majestic techno “brett” which turns over to deepness at its best. Le Fumoir shows perfectly why Jazz and Techno belong together. Woodsman is an experimental ambient post-psychedelic band based in Denver, CO. The quartet contains two totemic percussionists and two sonic animators who employ electric guitars, feedback loops, and recorded samples to build the dreamy astral soundscapes that define Woodsman's sound. Influenced by hazy mountain passes, the cinema of Stan Brakhage, and early 1970's improvisational recordings by Miles Davis Woodsman has crafted aural offerings that are uniquely their own. Thomas Fehlmann remains as one of the most endearing and respected artists on Kompakt. He has inspired generations of fans and musicians over the course of his 30+ year career. From his early days as part of the legendary band Palais Schaumberg, and the pioneering Detroit/Berlin act 3MB (with Juan Atkins and Moritz Von Oswald), to his longstanding membership with The Orb, combined with his contributions as a solo artist to esteemed imprints R&S, Plug Research and of course Kompakt.

Now, after 3 years, Fehlmann has returned with his critically acclaimed full length Gute Luft - the result of months of work scoring the hit German TV film 24H Berlin. Gute Luft is about re-tweaking and editing material from the countless hours of recording he had created. now it’s time for the remix treatment and two of Germany’s mainstay house producers have been selected to tackle Fehlmann’s tracks.

Philpot’s Soulphiction is impossible to avoid in the techno/house scene and has come up with a submerged house rendition of “Wasser Im Fluss” that is absolutely levitating. Move D was so inspired with the album that he came up with 2 remixes that Kompakt weren’t able to decide on which one to pick so they selected both. The guy has been gunning deep house for well over a decade and was the first choice for remix duties. His take on “Softpark” is drop deep gorgeous – key pads mingle just in the right way with a solid house groove. He opts for a more melancholic approach with his remix of “Berliner Luftikuss” (in respect to the original) – a physical bassline flitters with sonic raindrops creating a builder tune destined to bring full respect to the start of any DJ’s set.

Gold Panda ’s journey has been a long and intermittently strange one. Initially, the Essex, UK artist spent his day-job time behind the counters of various houses of ill repute adult bookstores and record shops finding that the two were equally seedy. He spent the rest of his waking hours building up a library of original, dizzyingly eclectic electronic music incorporating a disparate mix of influences and source material. The results were gleaming instrumental hip-hop tracks saturated with bright colors and sublimely chopped-up vocal samples. Thus, Gold Panda was born.

Gold Panda will release the You EP featuring remixes from Osborne, Seams, Dam Mantle , and Minotaur Shock on Ghostly International in the US on June 15th, 2010 in support of a full North American tour with HEALTH and Indian Jewelry. Gold Panda's own label, Notown, has released a 7" version of "You" in the UK this month as well with a different tracklist.

As a label Profan has released some of the most acclaimed radical minimal music to date. When it comes to pioneers in this field Wolfgang Voigt is very much at the forefront of this movement.

In Voigt's Freiland project there is one underlying theme; one single sound varied in many different ways surrounding the main basic idea of minimal-techno music: the four to the floor bass drum. In this case it's a synthetic piano, which moves between rhythmical and abstract, between deliberateness and coincidence, within a somewhat predefined structure. Now this is not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but bear with me.

Freiland-Klaviermusik stays true to the idea, maintaining its focus on music composed for the piano, but composed with a very different approach. Freiland Klaviermusik was inspired, by the work of Conlon Nancarrow (1912-1997), best known for his high-speed compositions for player-piano. “Nancarrow is best remembered for the pieces he wrote for the player piano. He was one of the first composers to use musical instruments as mechanical machines, making them play far beyond the restrictions of human performance.” In Nancorrows work, Voigt found strong parallels to his own; the search for unpredictability and spontaneity, often affecting his way of working, to find a symbiosis between man and machine.

For the 12" release DJ Koze has created an incomparable remix that has the potential to make this track a massive floor-filler and in doing so he has effectively integrated all of the relevant and original piano parts of the track. Personally I think DJ Koze's remix this will make this 12" sell and is a lot more open to listeners

Together with the original version and the hypnotic minimal track “Verwandlung,” the twelve-inch Profan 33 Geduld Remix will be released alongside its CD counterpart. The release date of ProfanCD9 will also signify the debut of Wolfgang Voigt's first official website (www.wolfgang-voigt.com) , which will present to this date, the most extensive overview of Voigt's artistic work and philosophy.

Beside the official twelve-inch release of Profan 33 Geduld remixes there will a very limited (less than 200 copies) hand painted and hand signed issue, which includes a free version of the CD. You can only buy this record from Kompakt.fm.

Lee Curtiss leads the compilation with the simmering house of “Smoking Mirrors”; Bodycode checks in with a jumpy, moody little number, “Immune”; while Spectral newcomer Gadi Mizrahi lends the slow-burning, percussive “Oh Love.” Seth Troxler & Matthew Dear add a refractive twist on techno with the twisted digitalia of “Hurt.” Of course Dear’s other aliases make appearances, with “The Connie Shake”’s spiraling nanofunk as Jabberjaw and the epic “I Am the Car” as Audion. The lone unreleased track comes from Spectral vet Osborne, whose “5th Stage (John Roberts Remix)” envelops melancholic melodies in a cinematic shroud—a lasting statement to close Spectral Sound. Jens-Uwe Beyer aka Popnoname is no stranger to the Cologne scene. Beyond releasing two acclaimed full length's on 'Italic', he is continually building bridges within the local community with the 'Sound Of Cologne' project that has included the likes of 'Ada', 'The Modernist', 'The Field', John Stainier (Battles) and Jan Phillip Janzen (Von Spar).

Following a string of contributions for Kompakt’s Pop Ambient series he joins the Kompkat Pop stablewith a  tune that is destined to bring him to a broader audience. 'Hello Gorgeous' finds itself somewhere between the classic sound of Kompakt and the Pet Shop Boys. 'Hello Gorgeous' sounds likes it was produced in lavish place where rave and indie meet on the dance floor. And all throughout, the song is harmoniously carried together by Beyer’s powerful vocals.

Popnoname provides a upbeat 'Le Klub remix' tightening the techno up a notch or 5. The big news is that 'Terranova' step in for remix duties – legends in their own right Fetisch and Me have been an institution in the music scene since the ‘80’s so we’re excited to have their exceptional contribution – they turn Hello Gorgeous into a cracking jack house number.
